Boko Haram: UN Delegation visits IDP Camp in Yola

The Head of the United Nations coordination office on humanitarian affairs in Nigeria, Mr Trond Jenseh was in saints Theresa camp and took time to interact with the internally displaced persons (IDPs).
The United Nations representative led members of his team to the saint Theresa Catholic Cathedral Yola IDP camp on Tuesday 8th December where he said the aim of the visit was to interact with the displaced persons in various camps to determine areas of intervention for them.
With excitement the internally displaced persons taking refuge at saint Theresa camp welcome the UN representative.
Mr Trond Jenseh was taking round the camp after the interection session with the IDP by Reverend father Maurice kwairanga head of the Yola Diocesan Justice Peace Development Commission (JDPC).
Mr Trond Jenseh saluted Bishop Stephen Dami mamza of yola Catholic diocese for the steps taken in catering for and resettling the IDP’s.
The UN representative expressed worried over their long stay at the camp.
He prayed God to bless the bishop for his humanitarian efforts and expressed hope that peace will be restored to enable the displaced persons to return their various communities.
Shortly after the interaction with the displaced persons, Mr Trond Jenseh visited Bishop Stephen Dami mamza in his office.
Bishop Stephen Dami mamza who expressed delight for the visit told the team that the church was building eighty three housing units with support from a group in Germany which included a school, health clinic, church and a mosque to resettle the displaced persons along yola song road.
He thanked Governor Umar Fintiri for allocating land to the church to contribute in resettling the displaced persons. Bishop Dami Mamza explained that the church has been involved in taking care of the IDP’S since the insurgency started in the northeast pointing out that the church has been collaborating with various non Governmental organizations and was open for partnership with the United Nations in that regard.
